KEJARI Camp 2010

For those of you who do not know what is Kejari, let me introduce. Kem Jati Diri (aka KEJARI) It's a camp organised by my hostel Kolej Tun Perak (aka KTP). The main purpose of this camp is to choose the new MTM(some sort of representative in my hostel) among the juniors in KTP. They have just chosen 80 juniors to join this camp. But they were some people propose to join this camp volunteerly and I do not know what is wrong with them.

So should I say luckily, or unluckily, I was the chosen one to join for this camp. I didn't want to go at all cause going camping is not my thing. And I have to go to UPM all the way from Penang during holiday? That's ridiculous. I decided not to go. Somehow, a Chinese senior of mine advised me to go. The reason is, I couldn't post it here as I might get sued or beaten up? Hahaha. Okay, so the conclusion was, I had to go.

When I was enjoying my days during my holiday at home, the days to go for this camp has come. 20th to 23rd of December. I felt like just giving up and not going. I cannot imagine I had to travel all alone from Penang to UPM. But at last I did, as I've promised my senior.

So early morning my dad drop me to the bus station. After 4 hours of journey, I reached KL safely. I took the KTM and taxi all alone. I was quite afraid but thank God everything was fine. After I've reached UPM, they say we are going to our destination soon. They told us the bus will start going at 2pm, but in the end, the bus started the journey at 4pm. How punctual they are. They also told us that the location of the camp is Hulu Langat which is somewhere around Selangor, but ended up the camp is in UPM itself in Bukit Ekspo. How funny. There were 83 participants in this camp, 18 of them are Chinese. Ended up 2 of the participant went back home earlier. When we reached Bukit Ekspo, the seniors asked us to send our parents a sms telling them our camping trip will be in UPM, and asked us to switch off our phones. Soon after that, the activities started.

First, we put up our own camps. Unfortunately, the camp that me and my friends got is broken. We were unable to set it up. And fortunately, there were some kind gentlemen who got an extra camp and gave it to us. So after that, we had to cook our own food. I wanted to offer to help, but seems like nobody wanted me to help. Well, I just stood beside and see how they cook. Since I was not cooking, I couldn't comment much about the cooking. I just can say that I feel thankful at home with the delicious food. Well, I'm from Penang,it's famous for the food. That night, the activity was, we had to present in front about which state are we from, what's the famous food and destination to hang out and to sing our state song. It was okay. After the activity, we were asked to sing our hostel song. Lagu KTP. Almost all of us didn't know how to sing it. Then, there was this I-don't-know-who-is-that senior came and scolded us like crazy.

"How long have you been in this hostel? You still do not know how to sing this song? Shame on you. Is it that difficult to sing it? Tell me, is it difficult? Don't you love your hostel?"

I cannot imagine that I am 20, and I don't think I am doing any mistake at all and I get scolded as if I am 5 years old. That moment, I felt that just walk to my camp and take my bag and say goodbye. I cannot believed that I'm forced to come to this stupid camp and I had to get scolded? I scold my students for being naughty, doing something wrong or not doing homework, and now I get scolded for something that I do not deserve at all? What on earth is going on here?!!!

Ahem, first of all, yes, I do not love this hostel, this place is lousy and dirty that I wrote a poem about it. Second of all, we don't sing our stupid hostel song every single day. You guys taught us this song for like I don't know how many times during the orientation week. I didn't even attend that day as I was not in UPM as my friends came to visit me, or should I say save me. So stop asking if it is that difficult to sing that stupid song cause if we love our hostel, we will know how to sing it!!!!!! Are you crazy!!!!??

Well, that was what I wanted to tell him and of course I didn't have the courage to tell him this and that's the reason why I'm writing it in this blog. Hahaha. So I told my Chinese senior that I'm so sorry, I will go back tomorrow morning as this camp is stupid. And it was raining season and it rained everyday. There was rain water in my camp. My camp stink,my clothes stink, my bag stinks, my shoes stinks, and I myself stink!!!!! I was hungry, the food sucks, we had to wear our sport shoes and it was raining, everything was wet, there were a lot of mosquitoes, we got scolded for something we do not deserve. And every single meals before we eat, they choose some one from us to greet all the seniors one by one by their names and ask them to eat. How ridiculous is that!? Do they think that they are God or kings or our parents or whoever? Ahhh!!! I really hate the moment when I was there, I decided to go home after that. I was thinking, why am I suffering here when now is holiday? How could this happen to me?

We were released to sleep at around 2am and we had to get up at 5.30am. I couldn't sleep the whole night as inside our camp is wet because of the rain and there were like thousands of mosquitoes killing me. I planned to go back the second day. Of course I felt bad that I going to leave, I know I'm very irresponsible like this, but I just couldn't take it anymore, especially for the scolding part. Screaming at us like crazy in the middle of the night is too much. Somehow, my senior asked me to be patient and get over it. And surprisingly, I did. I couldn't believe that I managed to get over this horrible 4 days 3 nights camp.

When I knew that I had to continue it and cannot escape, I took things positively and tried to face it happily as I had no choice already. Hahaha. I put up a smile, laughed and joked with my friends to make myself feel happier with this sucky surrounding. Hahaha.

During the second day, they had their activities going on. Honestly, some of the activities I did learn something there. But some of the activities I totally do not get the whole point of it. It's like pointless and time wasting to have these activities. For example, they want us to act how Malays get married, the whole process of it. There were 10 groups of us, so 10 groups of us were acting the same thing. So we were like spending hours of time doing the same thing which has no point.

Yeah, I have a lot to complain about this camp. I admit that I am a weak person as I planned to go home half way during this camp. But thank God I managed to get through it. I never thought that I can finish the whole camp. I thought I will just take my bag and leave and buy a bus ticket to go back to Penang although that I've bought a ticket for 23rd to go back already. When my senior told me to be patient and get through it, I really didn't want to, but I know I had to. I could just pray to God and ask Him to give me strength to get over this stupid thing already, and really He did. I thought since I had to stay here, why not I take it positively and try to learn something new, and yes, I did. I learned a lot. Guess what did I learn? First and foremost,

1.) How to be extremely patient when you see the seniors are asking you to do some stupid activities that is ridiculous, pointless and time wasting.
2.)How to shut myself up when someone is in front scolding you for something that you do not deserve it
3.)How to sleep on the floor, with a sucky, stinky, thousands of mosquitoes, uncomfortably without pillows and bolsters and hard surrounding.
4.)Walk in the heavy rain with my raincoat for hours
5.)Walk around the jungle in the middle of the night
6.)Got my eyes covered up and know how does it feel to be unable to see
7.)How to do things that you do not want to do at all
8.)How to sleep for only 7 hours in 3 nights

Some time I see the things they do, it's really very ridiculous that I feel like laughing out loud. It's like a comedy. Hahahaha... I'm not sure if you guys know what I mean, but I'm sure you guys will agree with me if you are they seeing what they M are doing. Hilarious. Hahaha. But this camp really teaches me how to be patient.

PATIENT!!!
Hahaha.

Anyway, really thank God for the safe trips to go and back from there. Thank God for letting me to get through it and thank God for the lessons that I've learned.

Lighthouse

Since it's semester break, I don't want to waste any single moment. I want to spend it to the fullest. What can I do? I've been thinking to work part time. The reason of it is to earn money, experience, and allow myself to spend my time do something rather than sit at home facebooking all day.

I don't want to work as a salesgirl in a shopping mall. I wanna work in an office so that I could get experience. I will be teaching tuition and a camp to attend. So I hope I could get a job that offers me flexible time according to my free time. I was thinking there will be no job for me as it's inconvenient for them.

So a friend of mine Jeff introduced me his job, which is working as an admin + sales in his office -- Lighthouse. With the name of the office, we know that it sells light. It's more like a showroom. I was wondering to go for it or not, but Jeff said that his boss can arrange the time according to my timetable. This is the part that interests me. So I went for the interview.

It was my first time ever to go for a job interview. I've been working on 3 different jobs but I've never been to a job interview. I've only been to club interviews. The first time I got interviewed is during my lower 6 for the Economy club. And the second time is in UPM joining an activity called PAP (Pesta Ang Pau).

Alright, moving on. I was nervous for the interview. I was wondering what to wear, how to answer the questions that the boss might be asking. I was thinking of all the situations. Thanks to the second interview that I attended. The seniors that interviewed me in UPM asked me questions like this :

Senior : So what makes you think that we should let you join our activity?
Senior : So from your 100% free time, how will you divide your time with this activity, your family, your studies, your relationship, entertainment? How many per cent you will give to this activity?
Senior : What are your weakness?
Senior : Will your weakness make this activity fail or couldn't be organised as planned?
Senior : If the costume for the performers was stolen or lost 1 hour before the shows start, what are you going to do?

These are the questions that the senior asked me. I was freaking out and didn't know how to answer for a few of the questions. That's the reason why I was nervous for this job interview. Even an interview for an activity in a university is so tough, what is a job interview like? I was thinking how to answer if the boss was about to ask some tough questions like the senior did.

However, everything didn't turn out like the way I thought it would be. The boss, his name is Ken. He is a very nice and friendly person. Although he made me waited for 40 minutes before the interview begin, plus I went there earlier 20 minutes than the appointment time, so I've waited for around 1 hour and 10 minutes, the interview went great. It was just a relaxing 15 minutes interview. He asked about what am I doing, where am I studying, the salary that I expect, what job that I expect, am I a Christian, and he even invited me to his church's Christmas party! What's this? Hahaa. Wow. Thanks to the crazy interview in UPM that freaks me out ~.~

Time flies, today is 15th, I've been working there for 13 days already. I realised that the technology is very advanced right now. Even a lamp needs a timer? Even a light has a remote control? There's a light that cost RM14000? There are so many things about lighting. People building man-made stars on their ceilings? I've seen some lighting pictures of a customer that this company made, this customer's house has a lift! And he decorated his house with such fancy lighting!

During the olden days, lights are used to brighten up our surrounding at night so that we could see when it's dark. The lightbulbs were invented by Thomas Edision on December 1879. Thanks to him, we are able to see and do our daily process at night. Things will be so inconvenient if there is no light.

But now, the technology is so modern that even there are fashion for lights. There are so many designs for lighting. There are so many choices for lighting according to our homes' concept. You can pick any type of lights that you want, modern, classic, crystals,so many more, any way that you want it, the supplier has it, as long as you have the money.

Come to think of it, there is some thing that is important,it's basic need for human, but it doesn't mean that we need the fancy thing of that thing. So here comes the differences between "Keperluan" (need) and "Kehendak" (want) that I used to study in Economics. Hahaha. Well, It's a fact that cannot be denied that light is important. We need lights very much. But now, even lighting can even become a fashion? Is it necessary?

My working days there are okay. My colleagues are fine. The admin work such as checking stock could make me headache a little bit sometimes but I'm okay with that. Making slide shows from catalogue is not a difficult job, it's just that it's time-taking a lot and I'm okay with that too. The part that I have stressed on is serving customers. Honestly, whenever I'm in the office alone, I pray that no customer come. Even there is customer, I hope that I can serve them well. There are some customers that love to ask a lot of questions and I don't know much about the light! I just afraid that I make them upset. Yes, I do want to learn more. I hope I can serve them well too. Oh well, but so far I've served 2 customers solo only. Normally there were colleagues around me. Phew~

So what have I learned so far during this 23 working days? First thing I learned is how to punch card! Sounds crazy I know. But I've never punched a card before this. Hahaaha. Well, I learned that there are a lot of different watts of energy saving bulbs. 24 watts,18 watts,15 watts,13 watts,8 watts.....And there's this code for the base, which is E27,and other types also such as GU10,MR16,E14....Sounds complicated eh? Yeah, and there warmwhite, coolwhite, or daylight for the brightness/colour of the bulbs. There are also energy saving bulbs,LED and halogens and so much more. Hahahaha.... Wow, I never know that there is so much to study about lighting. So now I know. Oh well, 10 more working days to go for me! All the best! :D

Semester break!

Hey guys! By looking at the title, you guys should know that what this post is about! Yes! Every students' favourite! Semester break!!!

First of all, I'd like to thank God for the safe trip back to Penang. I've been missing my beloved family and friends and EVERYTHING in Penang a lot when I was in UPM. I know it's crazy but I actually thought that I might lose them. Now I'm home comfortably with them and I'm so glad!

They say you have to lose something to appreciate it which I totally agree. Before I left this home, I didn't know this home was so comfortable and didn't appreciate my home until I live in UPM.

Does time fly? Yes, it does! It's semester break already. When I was studying, I was like "Can't the holiday come already? Why am I still here?" But, weeks after weeks, then I realised I'm coming back already! It feels great!

I have this semester break until 2nd of January. But I have to go for a camp named KEJARI organised by my hostel on 20th until 23rd of December. I pray that I will have a safe trip and be able to come back to celebrate Christmas! :)

This holiday is very long! I have to make full use of it! There is so many things that I want to do. Anyway, dear beloved family and friends, please ask me out to catch up with you! I can't wait to hang out with all my family and friends!

During this first semester, I've learned a lot of things and I'm so glad of that. I am not regret to make my choice to study far away from home. Although I missed home a lot and cried about it a few times, but this is a good experience for me that I don't learn in textbook.

University, in Chinese (大学), I totally agree with it. We LEARN BIG there. Hahaha. We learn a lot of things there. Not only academics, but also soft skills and how to be independent. I've met a lot of new friends and nice people which I'm so glad. I've learn how to communicate with people and do a groupwork with people. And I'm on the process on learning how to lead people and give a speech on stage. I've learned how to survive without my family with me.

When I wake up everyday, there is no lunch on the table.
When I want to wash my clothes, the washing machine is not 10 steps away from me, but I have to walk to another block to wash my clothes.
When I want to eat home cook or nice hawker food, I can go to sleep and try to dream that I am eating it, cause it's totally not available in UPM.
When I want to go to some place, or just to photocopy a few piece of papers, I need to wait for the bus to go and back, which takes my time around 2 hours for something that can be done in 15 minutes if I have a car there.
When I want to enjoy a long showering from a hot and tiring day, there is no water heater and the bathroom is very old, small, dirty and smelly.
When I want to do facial and have a haircut, I couldn't as there is too expensive.

All of these sound terrible, I thought it was the end of my life already. I used to complain a lot. But thank God, I've learned the most valuable lesson, that is I've been blessed everyday. The environment is not as good as home, but at least I was still alive every single day and I could survived. At least I have a few amazing gifts from God, which is my new friends in the University and FCC Chuch and Sharegroup, and my family who cares and concerns about me. A few calls from friends and family from hometown from day to day makes me so happy and touched. I may have lost some comfortable time at home, but I've gained knowledge and experience and gifts. Sometimes when we are just too comfortable, we tend to forget how lucky we are. I realised that the life there is not bad, because in some part around the world, there are people suffering, dying from hunger and illness, or natural disaster, or some crimes committed on them.

Some people used to ask me "Why you choose UPM? So far away! Choose UUM lah! It's near to Penang la! You can come back every weekend you want! No need to suffer there so long lor!"

At first I thought they were right, but now I do not think so. I have no regrets at all. I might not learn what I've learned today if I was not studying in UPM. So next time I will send my kids far away from home when they are 20 years old. Lol.

In conclusion, I'd like to say/sing,

        Light of the world,
        You stepped down into darkness,
Open my eyes let me see~
        You're altogether lovely, altogether worthy,
        Altogether wonderful to me.
Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades,
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame.

Call upon the Name of the Lord and be saved~

Thank you God for every single thing and wake me up to the reality through the dream.

And the cry of my heart is to bring You praise from the inside out of my soul cries out!!!

A gift from God

2nd of October, I followed a friend of mine named Paul Tan to church. If you ask me "Why you go to church? You are a Christian meh?"  Okay, no, I'm not a Christian. I went to church because I wanted to have a look. I wanted to see what they do. Not that I don't know. I went to church before, but still I want to go. I didn't really know why I go, I just went.

Honestly, that night after going to church, I felt that I'm a bad person. I don't know why. I just feel that I'm not a good person like the people in the church. I felt so left out. I cannot feel what they feel. The people are so nice and friendly. I feel I'm a bad person compared to them. The week after that I didn't go as I went to Sunway Pyramid. And another week after that I didn't go cause my friends visited me. And the week after that I didn't go again for I-don't-know-what-reason.

But since that message in the dream, if you guys read my previous post, you will know what dream. I have a feeling that I need to do something. I need to thank God for every single day and every single thing that I have. I've been blessed with such amazing things all this while and I didn't know it. How ignorant was I. After 27 days, 29th of October I went to a sharegroup with Paul. I met a lot of new people. 30th of October I went to church again. From then, I join them to church and sharegroup.

If now you ask me "Why you go to church? You are a Christian meh?" the first part of the answer is still the name, No, sorry I'm not a Christian, but now I go to church not because I want to look around what people do there, because I want to thank God for what I have! I feel so bad that I was so ignorant all this while. I've got all the nice thing and yet I didn't realised and kept complaining. Thank God I realised my mistake. I go to church to thank and worship God. I go to church to pray for myself,my family and friends and all the people who are suffering in the world. I pray for peace. That's the reason.

I mix with the sharegroup friends who called themselves as "Pilaks". I know a lot of nice and caring people there. We have the leader named Richard Lam and one of the drivers who always fetch us, his name is Chew. They all are really nice people and like a wonderful family. They welcomed me and treat me very nice. I feel so touched and thankful to be part of them. They are so caring and friendly.

One of the person that I most admire is Chew. He makes big sacrifice to fetch us to church. Every Saturdays, to fetch us from church, he drives his car all the way from his university which is UNITEN to the church which is located in Sunway to get the van from church, which is 30 minutes distance, and come back to UPM,UKM, UCSI and other places as well to fetch the students to the church, which is another 30 minutes distance, and fetch us back, which is another 30 minutes distance and go to the church to get his car and go back to his university which is another 30 minutes distance. By the time he got back,it's late at night already. He pays the petrol and tol fees himself. He never allow us to pay. I feel so touched of his sacrifice. He said he did this for God.

Since I came to UPM, I felt lonely sometimes. I felt that my life here was miserable here at first. I kept complaining about everything. But since that dream and since I met them, I feel life is so wonderful. I am so happy that I'm part of them. They are such happy people. They organise activity every week and I've been joining them for 2 weeks. I hope I can join them more but I'm going back to Penang this Thursday. I look forward to meet them next semester. They are such nice and caring people.

I accept this as a wonderful gift from God. Though I am lonely sometimes cause I miss my family in Penang, but it's great that I meet such caring people. Thank God for this wonderful gift.

Somehow there is something I feel I'm imperfect compared to them. I can't do it yet. I do not know about the future. I need some time. Please give me some time. I still need to do some survey and get some results.

Once again, thank you God for every single thing.
